HVAC Reviews: Mitsubishi’s kumo cloud Wireless HVAC Control App

HVAC Reviews: kumo cloud Mitsubishi control app

In last week’s post we described some of the situations and applications where ductless mini-split air conditioning systems are particularly useful and this week we’ll be reviewing an especially useful feature of those systems: cloud control & operation.

While other ductless systems on the market may have their version of cloud or remote operation, for our money the best, most-advanced and easy-to-use is the kumo cloud app by Mitsubishi.

What Is The kumo cloud Service & App?

Very simply, the kumo cloud service allows you to control & operate your Mitubishi ductless mini-split systems, all within one easy-to-use mobile app — which is available on both Android and iOS (Apple) devices.

How Does The kumo cloud App work?

Especially handy in multi-zone houses — but still used often in single zone setups — simple wireless adapters are installed onto each ductless unit that then connects it to your kumo cloud service account (which is created prior to setup) via your home’s wiFi connection.

Your kumo cloud account has its own username and password, which allows you to login to the app. Once logged in through the app, you can name, group, control and program your ductless units all through a few taps on your phone.

Zone Grouping & Scheduling

As mentioned above, for those with multiple ductless mini-split systems installed you can group them together to make control even easier.

An example grouping might be “Upstairs”. By grouping together all of your upstairs zones, you can quickly adjust and turn on/off all of them at once.

You can also set those groups on a particular schedule, which allows you to optimize operation throughout the day. This scheduling can really pay off when your electric bill comes in as you can have your units operate less when you’re away — automatically.

Filter Status Reminders With kumo cloud

On top of all of those operational features listed above, the kumo cloud system also allows you to keep an eye on your ductless air filters.

We’ve mentioned several times in this blog about the importance of changing/cleaning out air filters in your HVAC system. Not only does cleaning out air filters help with your indoor air quality, it also helps your system operate more efficiently — essentially keeping the pathways clear for conditioned air to be pushed through.

With the kumo cloud app, you can actually set reminders on when to clean your air filters after so many hours of operation — meaning you’ll get a message when it should be time for the next cleaning.

Smart Assistant Compatibility

In today’s connected world, smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant help people automate more and more of their home devices and kumo cloud is no different.

kumo cloud is now compatible with both Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa smart assistant interfaces.

The Bottom Line

Overall the kumo cloud is a great way to keep and eye on, automate and optimze your home’s ductless air conditioning system operation.

Getting started with it is easy and with just a few simple add-on devices you’ll be well on your way to a more automated lifestyle.
